The members of the ORGANIC Garments collectives have entered into an agreement with MAYA ORGANIC that includes a commitment for continuous learning & regular skills assessment, enrolment of their children to school (no child labour), working at a common workplace rather than home-based work, regular financial contribution to membership and savings, contribution to social security, improvement of occupational health and safety practices and fair distribution of percentage share of profit from collective.
MAYA ORGANIC believes that this results in a healthier and more responsible workforce besides ensuring a process of empowerment of the members to articulate their social and political needs and work towards attaining them.
MAYA ORGANIC : a network of enterprises
So far, 9 ORGANIC embroidery enterprises and one stitching unit have been formed across Bangalore City and Bangalore Rural district in India. This ensures large scale production and the collectives meet the hand embroidery demands of garment export houses in and around Bangalore and increasingly from other cities.
MAYA ORGANIC operates through a network of trained enterprises. This ensures the professionalisation and formalisation of the home based garment industry, while at the same time, the improvement of the entire industry from bottom up. Orders and customer requirements are taken and processed through MAYA ORGANIC, which distributes them to the enterprises according to capacities and competencies (according to the rating system). Internal quality processes and MAYA ORGANIC's final quality checking ensure a low level of rejection at the side of the client. Each collective is in charge of its own book keeping, cash book and financial transactions such as payment.
For a small service fee, MAYA ORGANIC assumes a monitoring and facilitation role, which continuously gives feedback to the collectives on their performance and rating. |
